Two Weeks Notice

As
a general fan of romantic comedies, I’m usually
happy to go and see any new release taken from this genre. Most of the
time they, follow a standard formula which is predictable but ultimately
feel good. However on the odd occasion, one comes along which doesn’t
just make you smile, it has the power to really make you laugh and, Two
Weeks Notice is the perfect example of this.
Hugh Grant and Sandra Bullock team up in this film about a powerful
New York business man (George) who hires an ordinarily non profit lawyer
(Lucy) in a bid to satisfy both their needs. All in all, she wants him
to save her local community centre while he is in need of someone to
help with his business events in an attempt to seem caring and compassionate
towards the public. Unfortunately, Lucy soon realises that George is
far too selfish and demanding for her liking and she hands in her two
weeks notice.
However, as soon as she does this Lucy begins to notice that, although
he goes against everything she stands for; she actually quite likes George
and even finds herself falling for him. Although she spends the next
two weeks fighting her desires, it is only a matter of time that they
both realise that they do in fact love each other.
Overall, I think this film works well as it shows both Hugh Grant and
Sandra Bullock at their best. Grant shines as the extremely charming
but slightly bumbling English man which has worked so well for him on
numerous previous occasions. Although his character never really changes
throughout his films, it is a style that works well and that audiences
seem happy to see time and time again.
Bullock on the other hand comes across as someone who it is easy for
the female audience to identify with. Although she is obviously extremely
beautiful, she is not ashamed to laugh at herself and have some fun as
seen in previous films such as Miss Congeniality. She is the one who
seems to get the more laughs of the two and they are well deserved.
I found this film thoroughly enjoyable as it was an extremely entertaining
light hearted comedy that kept me smiling even as I was leaving the cinema.
I highly recommend it for a fun night out so rush to see it while you
still have the chance.
