Shrek 2

As one of the most anticipated movies of the year, Shrek 2 has a lot to live up to following the mass appeal of its Oscar winning predecessor.

Now that Shrek and Princess Fiona are married, it's time for the big friendly ogre to finally meet the in-laws. Unfortunately for the happy couple, Fiona's parents are shocked and alarmed to be greeted by their beautiful daughter's choice of husband as they had planned to meet the dashing Prince Charming instead.

When the Fairy Godmother discovers that her son, Charming, hasn't been chosen as heir to the throne she vows to seek revenge. After all, she had given the King a great favour many years ago and, in return, he had promised that his young daughter would eventually marry her son.

Unfortunately for Shrek he is caught in the firing line and a whole new adventure begins for him and his companion donkey, as well as their new found friend Puss –In-Boots.

As a film in its own right, Shrek 2 is good entertaining fun. The animation is excellent and the storyline is guaranteed to keep a younger audience amused for its 90 minute running time. However, there's no contest with its successor. There's a distinct lack of hidden jokes for the older viewers and the overall comedy is at a much slower pace.

It's Shrek and Donkey's new Spanish feline friend, Puss-In-Boots, who steals the show though. Voiced by Antonio Banderas, he produces the best gags in a slick style and is clearly appealing to everyone.

Shrek 2 is definitely fun for all the family but just maybe not as amusing for the adult audience as its original. It's still incredibly entertaining though and, if only for the role of Puss-In-Boots alone, is certainly a must see movie for the summer.
