Kill Bill Clip

Highlighting the racial tensions that are rife in many American cities, Crash uses an excellent ensemble cast to tell a variety of narratives based on racial relations in 21st century Los Angeles.

These surround a number of people of different races including; two black car hijackers, a racist white cop, a Mexican locksmith and a Persian store owner. As their lives crash into one another during a 36 hour period, the storylines gradually become interwoven. The result of this is a shocking but gripping view of LA life.

Crash can most definitely be described as an excellent movie. The directing debut of Million Dollar Baby script writer Paul Haggis, it draws attention to a number of issues about American life which are very rarely publicised.

Yes, it plays on stereotypes and, while some of the characters emphasise such views, others show that not all people of a certain race can be categorised in the same way. There are good and bad people of all races. Although this is the majority attitude of today, some of Haggis’s characters prove that people can be extremely prejudiced for a variety of reasons. Then the resulting racial tensions can increase with explosive consequences.

This really is a wonderful movie which is sure to have you gripped from beginning to end. Although originally released in 2005, Crash has now added a Best Picture Academy Award to its achievements and is rightly getting a second screening at most multiplexes. If you missed it first time round then make sure you catch it while you can on the big screen or on DVD. It certainly is a classic of the future and not one to be missed now.
