When Trojan Prince, Paris (Orlando Bloom), falls in love with Helen,
the wife of the Spartan King, Menelaus, all hell breaks loose.
Menelaus’ brother
and King of the Greeks, Agamemnon, wants to fight Troy and gain
power over it. So, when the Spartan King reveals
his wife has been stolen by the young and beautiful Prince, they
decide
they have good enough reason to wage war on the Trojans.
With the greatest known warrior, Achilles (Brad Pitt), on their side,
the Greeks believe the war will be won easily.
Unfortunately for them, Achilles fights for no one but himself, creating
a more difficult fight than they had anticipated.
With its grand set designs and action packed battle sequences, Troy
is definitely a film of epic proportions.
In his role of Achilles, Brad Pitt is surprisingly good. Thanks to
his pumped up physique and strong stature, he overpowers the screen
and creates an utterly believable bravado.
Although the full scale battle scenes are impressive, it is the one
on one fight scenes that are most striking. They are particularly gripping
incidents which make for real edge of the seat stuff.
Even though at 163 minutes in length, Troy is slightly over long,
it is still entertaining and enjoyable enough.
Like other epic movies before it, it is a film that definitely needs
to be seen on the big screen so as to gain its full impact and be suitably
appreciated.
All in all, Troy is an entertaining if not excellent movie which is
well worth a watch this summer.
